I am a brand-new homeschooler (my oldest just started kindergarten on Wednesday) and I am enjoying the process of figuring out morning time. Learning Vietnamese is a priority in our homeschool, so we are spending our morning memorization time reviewing the words and phrases they are learning. This brings Dad into morning time a bit as well, since he is the native speaker of the language. I'm going to check out Cindy Rollins' book about morning time.
I was so resistant to Morning Time when we first started homeschooling; something about the terms "morning time" and "morning meeting" reminded me too much of preschool circle time or something. But I've really come around on the benefits and flexibility of it.
I still can't get passed the name Morning Time, though, so I call it "symposium" instead. And we do it at random times of the day. Whatever works, right?
I say call it whatever you want (and do it anytime of day that works)! The beauty of it is that it’s different for every family, and will inevitably shift and change as children grow. I’m thinking that next year I have a separate time (not sure what to call it?) just for my youngest, who are 6 and 3. There are just too many good books for those younger ages to skip even though I have older kids who don’t want to hear A. A. Milne and Beatrix Potter anymore.
Ah yes, the ever-growing to-read/to-purchase booklists! I will die long before I read all the books I would like to read. (I think my to-read list on goodreads is somewhere around 700 currently…)
Lucky children!
So kind of you!
DELIGHTED to subscribe for a year !! Keep writing.
Thanks, Mike. I appreciate your kind words and support!

How wonderful! I love how customizable morning time is. Best wishes to you and your family as you begin your homeschooling journey together!

Great recommendations, thank you! Many I had not yet added to my Thrift Books wish list. :) That Bible looks especially lovely.
